Roofing:

  1. My roof leaks. Do I need to replace it?
Not necessarily, leaks can come from several areas of the roof. It could be a maintenance problem like caulking at flashings or pipes. Most roof systems are designed to last about twenty years.
  2. Can I put another roof over the existing roof?
Yes in some cases. But you should have a professional roofer inspect the current conditions of your existing roof.
  3. What is "drip edge"?
It is an L-shaped strip of metal installed along the roof edge to allow water to run off to rip clear of the roof deck and eaves.

Siding:

  1. What are the advantages of capping rakes and fascia boards?
This allows a maintenance free exterior. It eliminates the need to paint any exposed wood that deteriorate from the elements of weather. Capping comes in a verity of colors.
  2. What are "soffits"?
This is part of the roof that extends out from the main roof at the gutters edge. This area should be vented to allow air flow into the attic for better ventilation.
  3. What is "Tyvek" or "Amocore" Insulation?
It is a moisture and vapor barrier used over existing wall insulation.

Gutters:

  1. Why does ice form in gutters?
This is called an "ice dam" it is when melting snow often refreezes where the surface is colder. This blocks proper drainage into the gutter and water backs up under the shingles and seeps into the exterior walls. The build up of ice and snow could also destroy your gutter. It is also important to keep gutter cleaned of debris.
  2. What are the different types of gutters?
The most common is aluminum 5"& 6" gutter. Other options are copper and galvanized.
  3. What are gutter covers?
Gutter covers/Gutter Guard protects the gutter and downspout from falling leaves and other tree debris. This is important because gutters become clogged and allow water to over flow causing dirt erosion and wet basements. Or the gutter becomes to full and begin to pull away from the fascia board.
